I have twenty years experience in the helping professions working with a diverse population of adults, families and couples undergoing mid life transitions, relationship issues and existential identity crisis. I work within a spiritually informed contemporary psychoanalytic psychotherapy perspective and draw upon Jungian, Existential, Relational and Cognitive Behavior orientations.

I am trained in pastoral counseling and psychotherapy and have a special interest in helping people discover a healthy spirituality that is free from shame, guilt and fear. I have been leading retreats for Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families for ten years and have experience with addictions and addiction recovery. I have worked with many folks who combine 12 step work with individual psychotherapy.

I enjoy working with survivors of emotional, sexual or physical abuse, as well as those who have suffered from emotional neglect who struggle with issues of intimacy, isolation, depression, guilt and shame.

I have been teaching, supervising and mentoring psychotherapists for over six years and currently I am a clinical supervisor at the John F. Kennedy Center for Holistic Counseling in Oakland.

Many cultures describe the three fold nature of the Self as the person we show to others, the person we believe we are, and the person we truly are. Often it is a crisis of some sort that causes us to wonder and question who we really are. My earlier professional life had been in business but when my own life underwent some major changes, I pursued my deeper interests in psychotherapy. I specialize in guiding clients into "care of the soul," to find the essence of who they really are through psychospirituality. (For further information on care of the soul and psychospirituality, please click on the "articles" link.)

I especially enjoy working with a diverse population of adults, families and couples who want to work through adult transitions and relationship issues.

My area of expertise includes healing from past sexual/childhood abuse and emotional neglect; transforming limiting habits of thinking and acting; aging; letting go of shame-trauma; stress management; adult and career transitions; couple's issues; cultural/diversity issues; therapy as spiritual exploration, i.e., discovering our authentic identity and our own divinity within.

My training includes Positive Psychology, i.e., psychology that studies what healthy and highly functional people do at work and in personal relationships. I incorporate into my work with individuals and couples Body-oriented Psychotherapy and meditative techniques. I also draw on Depth-oriented Brief Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy, knowledge of the enneagram, dream studies, and Transpersonal Psychology. Teaching clients how to communicate effectively, compassionately and non-violently through the use of empathy is an integral part of my practice. I have a master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the School of Holistic Studies, John F. Kennedy University. A clinical hypnotherapist, I am also trained in EMDR, a technique used with many kinds of trauma.

In addition to my practice, I give presentations and workshops on effective communication, multicultural diversity issues, raising self-esteem; sexual/childhood abuse, and on navigating the ins and outs of adult life transitions.

My training in psychotherapy began in 1996. I feel my approach to therapy is well rounded because I have been fortunate enough to work with a variety of mental issues using a variety of therapeutic methods. I have been trained in Jungian, Psychosynthetic, Cognitive, Process, Breath, and Transpersonal/Spiritual/Buddhist psychologies.

I feel I have a special gift for embodying/applying psychological and spiritual insights and practices to relationships and life in general. I will successfully model this gift for you and serve as an inspiration for your transformation/healing; furthermore, our sacred relationship will serve as a ground and foundation for the exploration, transformation, and healing of your self. I received my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, Palo Alto, CA. As a result, I address “dis-ease” and exceptional health using a six pronged approach consisting of body, mind, spirit, emotion, creativity, and community.

Through connection, acceptance, allowance, timely reflection, and gentle direction, I will help further your abilities to serve yourself and others.

The accepting, allowing holding environment I create allows for the discovery of, and experimentation with, new ways of being. I specialize in addressing issues of personal power, religious/spiritual issues, low self-esteem, meaninglessness, narcissism, anxiety, diversity of race and gender issues, sexual addiction, fear, substance addiction, communication/intimacy issues, codependency, low sex drive/poor sex life, integrating body and mind, and integrating peak experiences or experiences of enlightenment.

My work also relies on insights made by the following spiritual systems: Hinduism, Yoga, Tibetan and Indian Tantra, Buddhism, and Christianity. I have traversed India and am fond of her spirituality and her people.

It is my pleasure to serve you because I am committed to the evolution of human consciousness: attention, intention, and awareness. I am committed to the evolution of relationship and I am committed to creating communities that are characterized by health, tolerance, peace, compassion, love, respect, and justice. I want love of self, and love of others, Love, to flourish. I want to see you flourish in dignity & love.

I am a holder of Hope, which comes from an unknown place inside of us,
A gentle seeker of Truth, that unfolds as our unique gifts are revealed

That resides in us All as a vast creative unending resource called Love.
