The Jonah Complex:
Embracing the Sacred in a Shame-based World.
The Biblical story popularly
known as ‘Jonah and the Whale’ has been loved across generations,
cultures and religious traditions for many centuries Even today
we identify with this reluctant prophet and his struggle to embrace
his divine calling. The message which he does not want to deliver
requires him to be himself, speak his truth and become visible to the
world.
We are like Jonah, wanting
to be ourselves and yet we also run from our divine calling due to shame.
Our journey towards the Beloved requires that we also be swallowed by
a whale that transports us to our destiny.
In this workshop we will:
Explore the major theme
in the book of Jonah, focusing on the relationship between shame, spirituality
and personal transformation.
Draw parallels between
Jonah’s dilemma and our own stories of shame. We will look at the
effects of unhealed shame in a world deeply divided by religious
ideologies.
